HubSpot review guidelines decide who can rate an app in the HubSpot Marketplace, how app partners may ask for reviews and which reviews HubSpot takes down. They matter because the listing is where a HubSpot customer judges an integration in the minutes before clicking install.

This guide sets out the rules from HubSpot's own pages, checked on 25 October 2026: who may review, how HubSpot asks for reviews, what its policy bans, how partners reply and how star ratings appear. It also covers the Solutions Directory, where the same policy applies.

Key takeaways

  • Only logged-in HubSpot users who have the app installed, or uninstalled it less than 14 days ago, can review it, and only the first three users in an account.
  • HubSpot sends each user a review request automatically 30 days after they install an app, and partners can add follow-ups and a direct review link.
  • HubSpot's reviews policy bans any compensation for a review, including free or discounted products, refunds and services that sell reviews.
  • Partners may reply to reviews respectfully, up to two replies on a marketplace listing, and must never retaliate against a reviewer.
  • A listing needs at least 10 reviews before it displays a star rating, and HubSpot does not remove a review just because it is negative.

What are the HubSpot review guidelines?

The HubSpot review guidelines are the rules for reviews on the App Marketplace, the Template Marketplace and the Solutions Directory. A reviewer must be a real, logged-in customer with full-version experience, and partners may ask for reviews but may never reward a review, write one themselves or retaliate against a reviewer. Reviews that break the rules are archived or removed.

The rules live in two places. The HubSpot Marketplace Reviews Policy binds both reviewers and the partners being reviewed, and HubSpot's Knowledge Base turns it into practical steps for each side.

Almost every HubSpot customer is a potential reviewer. HubSpot's Technology Partner Program page, checked in October 2026, says 95% of HubSpot customers have installed at least one app and 60% have installed more than five, so reviews help them choose between apps that look alike.

Some app partners hand the outreach to a managed campaign. Our page on how partners buy HubSpot reviews through RelikReview explains how those campaigns run with their own clients through HubSpot's review flow, with no rewards. For buyers who compare tools elsewhere, see how to get SourceForge reviews or our page on buying SoftwareSuggest reviews.

Who can leave a review under the HubSpot marketplace guidelines

The HubSpot marketplace guidelines tie every app review to a real install. According to HubSpot's guide to leaving a marketplace review, last updated on 14 January 2026, a reviewer must meet all of these conditions:

  • Be logged into HubSpot.
  • Have the app installed in their current account, or have uninstalled it less than 14 days ago.
  • Be reviewing the listing for the first time, including reviews left from other accounts.
  • Be one of the first three users in their account to review the listing.
  • Qualify under HubSpot's reviewer eligibility rules.

The reviews policy adds who may never review. It rules out anyone who is "an affiliate, employee, consultant, independent contractor, third party partner or family member of the Service Provider", HubSpot employees, event attendees who are not clients, and "a free trial user of the Service Offering". A competitor, such as "one Solutions Partner attempting to review another Solutions Partner or Provider", may review only when the review states that relationship.

Each person may leave "only one review per Service Offering", based on their own experience. Before submitting, the reviewer gives a rating from 1 to 5 stars and ticks a box confirming the review follows HubSpot's review guidelines.

What the HubSpot review policy bans

The HubSpot review policy is stricter on rewards than many software review sites. It says reviewers "may not create, modify, or post a review in exchange for compensation of any kind", and that covers free or discounted products, refunds and reimbursements. For partners, the rule is just as direct: "As a Technology Partner, Solutions Partner, or Content Provider you may not offer compensation or financial reward" for a review of their own product or a competitor's.

The same section closes the obvious workaround, because the ban "includes using services that sell customer reviews, websites, or social media groups". The policy also bans:

  • Using a customer account to write or change a review.
  • Reviewing your own products, or a competitor's outside the disclosed cases.
  • Advertisements, or links with referrer tags or affiliate codes, in a review.
  • Retaliating against customers or clients who post reviews.
  • Using the Report button against a competitor.

When a review breaks the rules, HubSpot's Knowledge Base says the reviewer gets a notification email and the review is archived. For the partner, the bigger risk is the listing itself, since the policy says a breach "may result in removal of your review or removal of your product, service or listing".

How HubSpot asks customers for reviews

HubSpot does part of the asking for every partner. HubSpot's guide to requesting app reviews, last updated on 1 June 2026, says "a review request is automatically sent to each user 30 days after installing an app". Because every user gets the same request at the same point, the automatic email is already a fair, fixed-point request.

Partners can add to it in three ways. They can switch on follow-up emails every 60, 90 or 120 days, with 90 days as HubSpot's recommended frequency. They can also send customers the review link from the listing's Customer Feedback tab, or embed a review button, link or form on their website.

Every channel has the same limit, since HubSpot says only customers who meet its review guidelines should leave reviews. A review link sent to someone who never installed the app, or who removed it weeks ago, will not produce a valid review.

HubSpot app review rules for partners collecting reviews

The HubSpot app review rules leave plenty of room for partners who ask fairly. A simple process that stays inside them looks like this:

  1. Let the automatic request run. The day-30 email reaches every user with no extra work.
  2. Add one follow-up. A recurring follow-up at 90 days gives customers who missed the first email a second chance.
  3. Use the same link for everyone. Share the Customer Feedback review link in onboarding emails or help pages that every customer sees.
  4. Keep the wording neutral. Ask for an honest review and say nothing about the rating.
  5. Offer nothing in return. No discount, credit, gift or free month, for any rating.

Pick request points that every customer reaches, such as day 30, day 90 or the account anniversary, and avoid triggers that only satisfied customers reach. For request wording and timing across email, in-app messages and calls, see our guide on how to ask customers for reviews.

Two limits shape who you ask in each account. Only the first three users can review a listing, so ask the people who use the app every day, and remember that a customer who uninstalls has 14 days left to review.

How partners can respond to and report reviews

Replies are allowed on every listing. The reviews policy says partners "may, however, respond to reviews as part of the review process in a respectful manner", and HubSpot's guide to managing listing reviews, last updated on 18 May 2026, explains how. You open the listing's Customer Feedback tab, click Reply under the review, write your answer and send it.

The customer receives the reply by email, and it appears on the public listing. "Listing creators may leave up to two replies on reviews", and customers cannot answer a reply on the listing, so make each one count. A calm, specific answer to a critical review often tells a future buyer more than the review itself.

Reporting a review

A partner who believes a review breaks the rules can click Report under it, and HubSpot says it "will review the request within ten business days". If HubSpot removes the review, both sides are notified and the customer may leave a new one. The policy is clear on the limit: "We don't remove any review simply because it may be negative or not to the Service Provider's liking."

Star ratings and the HubSpot review guidelines

Each review carries an overall rating from 1 to 5 stars, but a new listing does not show a star average straight away. HubSpot's guide to managing listing reviews says "a listing must have at least 10 reviews to display a star rating". Until then, buyers can read individual reviews without seeing an average.

HubSpot review guidelines in numbers: a 14 day uninstall window, three reviewers per account, a day 30 request and 10 reviews for stars

That threshold makes the first ten reviews the most important ones for a new app. If you are still asking why are online reviews important for a HubSpot app, the answer starts here: a listing with a visible rating looks established next to one with no stars at all.

Ratings can also change later. A reviewer can edit a review by picking a reason from the Edit reason menu, and an update may take up to 24 hours to publish.

Solutions Directory reviews for Solutions Partners

The same reviews policy covers the Solutions Directory, where customers review the agencies and consultants they hired. HubSpot's guide to Solutions Directory reviews, last updated on 29 September 2026, says partners copy a review link from their Directory Profile and send it to clients.

Solutions Partners can leave one reply to a review and report problem reviews the same way app partners do, and a removed review's rating no longer counts. Staff, contractors and family can never review the firm. Among the many software review sites buyers check, this directory is where HubSpot customers compare partners.

Run HubSpot review campaigns with RelikReview

RelikReview plans HubSpot review campaigns that app partners run with their own clients through HubSpot's review link, inside every rule above. Nobody receives a reward, and you get the plan, timing and price in writing first.

  • Their clients, their wordsEach client decides whether to review and what to say.
  • No rewardsNobody is paid or offered a discount for a review.
  • Same request for everyoneEvery client hears from you at the same fixed point.

HubSpot review guidelines in short

The HubSpot review guidelines come down to three points. Reviews come only from logged-in customers with real, recent installs, HubSpot asks every user at day 30, and partners may ask, reply and report but never reward a review, write one or retaliate against a reviewer.

Partners who build their outreach around these rules keep every review they earn and protect the listing itself. If you would like help planning a HubSpot review campaign that fits them, talk to the RelikReview team about where to start.

FAQs about HubSpot Marketplace reviews

Who can leave a review on the HubSpot Marketplace?

A HubSpot Marketplace review can come from a logged-in HubSpot user who has the app installed, or uninstalled it less than 14 days ago. They must be reviewing the listing for the first time and be one of the first three users in their account to review it. Partner staff and free trial users are excluded.

Can HubSpot app partners offer rewards for reviews?

No, HubSpot app partners may not offer any compensation or financial reward for a review. The reviews policy covers free or discounted products, refunds and reimbursements, and it also bans using services that sell customer reviews. Breaking the policy can lead HubSpot to remove the review, or the partner's product, service or listing.

When does HubSpot send review requests?

HubSpot sends a review request automatically to each user 30 days after they install an app. Partners can add follow-up emails, either once or every 60, 90 or 120 days, with 90 days recommended. They can also share a direct review link from the listing's Customer Feedback tab or embed one on their website.

How many reviews does a HubSpot listing need to show a star rating?

A HubSpot listing needs at least 10 reviews before it displays a star rating. Each review still includes an overall rating from 1 to 5 stars, and buyers can read individual reviews before the average appears. This makes the first ten reviews especially important for a new app on the marketplace.

Can a partner get a negative HubSpot review removed?

No, HubSpot does not remove a review simply because it is negative or not to the partner's liking. A partner can report a review that breaks the guidelines, and HubSpot reviews the request within ten business days. If the review is removed, the customer is notified and may leave a new review.
